To wear a veil or not to wear a veil. That is the question…
Okay, so you might have noticed that it is becoming less of a tradition and more of an accessory. What is this I speak of? The veil- A classic tradition that is used in many cultures around the world. One might see it as symbolic or a mandatory requirement, and in many religions this is true.
If you are what we call a “modern day” or “non-traditional” bride, you might want to opt for something a little less traditional and something more modern. Also, you may want to consider your venue, the time of day your wedding will take place, and most importantly, your personality. There are many different lengths and styles of veils. This style should be determined based on the style of your gown, your venue or maybe even your height. Long veils are great for outdoors because they flow in the breeze, and also in a traditional setting like a church or chapel.
In determining if whether you should wear a veil, be open minded but keep to being you! If you don’t want one, don’t wear one. Having a beach wedding? Throw in a no fuss flower with your swept up lightly pinned flowy hair. Are you daring? How about you make a statement with a really cool feather piece accompanied by a bird cage! OH! I said it. The bird cage- which brings me to my next point.
The bird cage is often called a veil and could be worn in numerous ways. The reason it is classified in the veil category, is simply because it could be worn to cover your entire face. Other brides will wear it covering one eye, or just below the nose. It is typically made of Russian netting and a scalloped edge. This veil does not get “lifted” at the ceremony because its usually pinned in really good! If you want that whole “ahhhh” moment, you might want to consider a traditional veil.
My point is, do not feel obligated as a bride to have to wear a veil unless it is mandatory or your mother really really really wants you to. It is becoming more and more common to not wear one. Whatever you decide, just know that you are going to make the most beautiful bride. Cheers!
